Grazie al pozzo senza fondo chiamato Myspace, durante le mie scorribande notturne in cerca di nuova musica, mi sono imbattuto in un interessante gruppo emergente di nome Dormant Carnivore e ho pensato fosse interessante proporne la recensione…

Through the bottomless well called Myspace, during my night raids looking for new music, I came across an interesting and emergent band called Dormant Carnivore and I thought interesting to propose a review

Which is the challenge?

Semplicemente quella di dover riprodurre la mia recensione anche in lingua inglese…(anche perché con il cirillico avrei avuto molti più problemi), in maniera da dare la possibilità alla band russa e al movimento russian death metal di poter leggere l’articolo.

….Simply… having to traslate my review in english..(in Cyrillic I would have had more problems!), to give possibility to russian band and to Russian death metal movement to read my script.

Ma ora diamo inizio alle danze…sperando in un aiuto dei lettori per migliorare la comprensione del mio strampalato inglese!

Promo 2008

L’album si apre con un sampler d’introduzione per “Defile The Temple Of Thy Womb”, che riesce sin dalle prime partiture ad inquadrare il mondo dei Dormant Carnivore, tra growling esasperato e gutturale, capace di toccare gli estremi del grindgore e del brutal. Il brano si dipana tra violente scariche di batteria, governata al meglio da Hitman, coadiuvato da riff granitici e luciferini.

Album opens with an intro sampler for “Defile The Temple Of Thy Womb”, that early can frame Dormant Carnivore world, between exasperated and guttural growling, capable to touch grindgore and brutal extreme. The track unravels among drums violent discharge, best governed by Hitman, helped by granite and luciferin riff.

Entrati nella folle realtà della band russa, ci si ritrova ben presto nella brutalità di “Stillborn Ptomaine Extraction” in cui la sei corde, tanto chiara e precisa quanto distorta, si propone come una sorta di trait d’union di questo ottimo promo EP, che nulla ha da invidiare a band più quotate solo perché già inserite nel mainstream metallico.

Now that we have entered into the russian band fool reality, we can live the brutality of “Stillborn Ptomaine Extraction”, where the six chords, so clear and precise what distorted, proposes like a trait d’union for this excellent promo EP, that has nothing to envy to more listed band of metallic mainstream.

Ascoltare i passaggi cupi e nereggianti delle tracce, ricrea una orrorifica sensazione di destabilizzazione emotiva, retta da cambi di direzione e da sonorità venate di nuove influenze. Nulla è lasciato al caso; il basso di Alexander entra in gioco in maniera prepotente quanto i vocalismi tumescenti si manifestano al meglio nella conclusiva “Female Torso Snuff Relations”, incrocio di intensità impulsiva e sconvolgenti lirismi.

To listen gloomy and black tracks steps, produce an horrorific sensation of emotional destabilization, support by changes of direction and sonority venate by new influence. Nothing is left to chance; Alexander bass comes into play in an overbearing bossy than tumescent vocalism that grow in the conclusion “Female Torso Snuff Relations”, crossing intensity pulsed and unsettling lyricism.

Il breve (ahimè troppo breve) disco, riesce a colpire come un pugno nello stomaco e riesce a svegliare l’ascoltatore pronto alla cimento, senza celebrazioni particolari e senza citazioni musicali d’impatto. Siamo di fronte ad una band già per certi versi matura, che riesce a promuovere musica con un calore e un vigore notevole, adatto ad un genere non facile per chi poco mastica il growling estremo.

The Short (ahimè too short) CD, can hit like a punch to the stomach and it can awaken the listener ready to battle, without special celebrations and without quotes musical impact. This is a band already, mature in some ways, that can promote music with a warmth and a considerable force, suitable for a kind not easy for those who chew the extreme growling.

Ad ogni intervista tedio le band chiedendo l’origine del nome?

“Dormant Carnivore” è solo una scelta casuale parole estratte dal dizionario Inglese-Russo, nel momento in cui ho deciso di assegnare un nome al mio One Man Project (che era iniziato come OMP nel 2005). Sono stato guidato da una sola regola – il nome deve essere univoco. La prima volta ho voluto costruire il nome dal termine “carneficina”, ma è troppo utilizzato e quindi ho deciso di optare per “carnivoro”. Dormant è solo una parola che mi è piaciuta…presa dal dizionario. Poi ho notato che è la musica che ho scritto a corrispondere al nome del progetto, costituita da parti mid-slow e brevi e veloci elementi. E ‘stato allora. Ora la nostra musica è più tecnica e furiosa.

Come nasce la band?

Mi piacciono molti tipi di musica, ma il metal mi piace molto più di altri generi. Io ho semplicemente comprato la chitarra elettrica e ha iniziato a imparare a suonare. Circa un anno più tardi, ho creato il mio progetto. Ho realizzato molte canzoni, ma ora posso dire… solo poche di esse è da considerarsi buona. Quando mi sono trasferito in un’altra città per continuare gli studi presso l’Istituto, ho incontrato molte persone interessate alla mia musica. Alcuni di loro hanno aderito ai DC. Tutti facevano già parte di altre band. È stato facile iniziare le prove e comporre nuove canzoni. Così OMP è diventata una band. Era 2007-2008.

Perché una band interessante come la vostra è ancora alla ricerca di una label?

Ci sono alcune possibilità, ma non abbiamo fretta. Nell’autunno del 2008 abbiamo rilasciato Promo CD (self released, 100 copie e poi altre 50), che ci ha dato un grande sostegno nella promozione.

Come descrivereste la scena metal in Russia? Quali sono le difficoltà che band come la vostra incontrano nel vostro paese?

La scena russa è in rapida crescita. Nel corso degli ultimi anni ci sono state band russe che sono diventate note in tutto il mondo. Penso che il problema più grande è la mancanza di tempo. È difficile trovare tempo e denaro per provare 2-3 volte a settimana. Forse molte persone non hanno ancora incontrato la musica che potrebbe ispirarli realmente. Inoltre – la Russia è grande, ma quasi tutti i metal events sono nelle grandi città. Spesso è troppo duro avere possibilità di andare lì a proporsi e mostrare ciò che si vale.

Di cosa trattano le tematiche delle vostre canzoni?

Quando ho dovuto scrivere testi, inizialmente non ho prestato molta attenzione alla scrittura. Erano piuttosto banali. Ma ora tutti i testi li scrive uno dei nostri cantanti. Contengono molte metafore e talvolta sono difficili da capire, ma contengono significati nascosti. E ‘difficile per me dire qualcosa in merito, le tematiche sono diverse.

Perché non pensare ad un cantato in russo?

Penso che nome del gruppo, titoli e testi debbano essere scritti nella stessa lingua. Se si vuole ottenere successo a livello internazionale è necessario utilizzare una lingua internazionale, in modo tale da rendere facile a tutti la comprensione di musica e testi.

Quali sono i futuri programmi dei Dormant carnivore?

Adesso il nostro compito è quello di registrare il debut album e renderlo il più bello possibile. Abbiamo in programma di terminare la registrazione nel periodo autunno-inverno 2009.

Every Interview ibore the bands asking name genesis…?

“Dormant Carnivore” is just random words choosen from a EN-RU dictionary when I decided to name my One Man Project (it was started as OMP in 2005). I’ve been guided by only one rule – the name must be unique. First time I wanted to build name from word “carnage”, but it’s too popular and I decided to take “carnivore”. Dormant was just word from dictionary I liked. Then I noticed that music I wrote is corresponds to project name, it consisted of mid-slow parts with short fast elements. It was then. Now our music is more technical and furious, but slams persist.

how born the band?

I liked many kinds of music, but I like metal much more than other. I simply bought electric guitar and started learning to play it. About one year later I created my project. I made many tracks but now I say – only few of them was good. When I moved to another city to continue studying at the Institute I met many people that was interested in my music. Then some of them joined DC. All of them already had musical expirience in another bands. It was easy to start rehearsals and compose new songs. So OMP became a band. It was 2007-2008.

why an interesting band like you is looking for a label yet?

We have some variants, but we don’t hurry. In autumn of 2008 we released Promo CD (self released, 100 copies and later 50 more), it gave us a great support and promotion.

How you can describe the Russian metal scene? Which are problems in Russia for a band like you?

Russian metal scene is growing rapidly. There are russian bands that became well known throughout the world over the past few years. I think biggest problem is lack of time. It’s hard to get time and sometimes money to have 2-3 rehearsals a week. And maybe many people just never heard music that could inspire them to make their stuff much interesting. And of course – Russia is big but almost all metal events is happen in capitals. Often it’s too hard to get opportunity to go there to declare yourself and show what you can.

What talking about your lyrics?

When I had to write lyrics itself, I gave them too few attention. They were rather banal. But now all the lyrics writes one of our vocalists. They contain a lot of metaphors and sometimes are difficult to understand, but contain hidden meanings. It’s hard for me to say what they about, they are different.

Why dont you sing in Russian?

I think the group name, track names and lyrics must be written in the same language. If you want to get to the international level you must use an international language, so that was easy for everybody to understand what kind of music on this CD and what songs about.

Which are Dormant carnivore future programs?

Now our primary task is to record our debut album and make it as good as it possible. We planning to finish it in autumn-winter of 2009.
